Mountaineers Post Strong Weekend at Firelake JUCO Classic

The Mountaineers put together another strong weekend, going 3-1 with a blend of timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and steady work in the circle.

They opened Friday with an 8-0 shutout over Carl Albert State College in Shawnee. After jumping out early in the first inning on a two-run single from Dakota Hall and a steal of home, the Mountaineers broke the game open in the fourth with a five-run surge. Jaxie Glasson was hit by a pitch to force in a run, Josie Pollet drew a bases-loaded walk, Hall added another two-run single, and Makayla Clark brought home a run on a fielder's choice. Hall finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs, anchoring the middle of the lineup. Kaylea Underwood was dominant in the circle, allowing just two hits over five innings while striking out seven. The Mountaineers were clean defensively, committing no errors.

They carried that momentum into a 9-0 win over Rich Mountain later Friday. Pollet sparked the offense with an RBI triple in the first, and Hall followed with a sacrifice fly. The Mountaineers added four more runs in the second, highlighted by Pollet's two-run single. Glasson paced the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate, while Pollet drove in three runs. Kalleigh Budd kept Rich Mountain off balance, allowing just one hit in 4.2 shutout innings as the Mountaineers once again played error-free defense.

Saturday brought a tougher test against Crowder. Despite outhitting their opponent 8-5, the Mountaineers fell 6-5. After trailing by six, they mounted a late push in the sixth inning. Wells worked a bases-loaded walk, Glasson delivered a three-run triple, and Hall followed with an RBI double to close the gap. The rally came up just short, but the fight was evident as the Mountaineers drew seven walks and continued to put pressure on the bases.

They bounced back in the finale with a 7-5 win over Western Oklahoma. Dakota Hall put together one of the best performances of the weekend, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and two singles. After Western Oklahoma tied the game with a grand slam in the sixth, the Mountaineers responded immediately. Hall ripped a two-run double to break the tie, and Addi Brown followed with another double to extend the lead. Budd worked 6.2 innings in the circle, allowing just two earned runs to secure the win. The offense totaled 11 hits and drew six more walks, continuing a weekend trend of disciplined at-bats.

Across four games, the Mountaineers showcased balance — explosive innings at the plate, strong starting pitching, patience in the box, and consistent defense. They'll look to carry that momentum on the road Tuesday when they travel to Murray State.
